SIT formed to probe IIM Calcutta rape case, accused in Police custody

A nine-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed by Kolkata Police to probe the alleged rape case at IIM Calcutta. TVK stages mega protest in Chennai, seeks justice against custodial violence

A large-scale protest by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) is taking place in Chennai, demanding justice for victims of custodial violence. The rally, which began at 9:30 AM, sees thousands of supporters waiting for their leader Vijay to address the gathering. The protest comes in the wake of 24 custodial deaths reported in Tamil Nadu over the past four years. Vijay has met with 18 families of the victims and has assured legal support. The stage displays images of those who died in custody, and protesters are using hashtags like #Killings and #TNDemandsJustice. Some protesters are sporting tattoos showing their support for Vijay, referring to him as 'Talewa' (leader). The TVK is also seeking justice for Ajit Kumar's family, with Vijay having previously visited them to offer assistance.
